Cost of Blueberries

To say that Princess and BamBam love blueberries is a gross understatement.  My kids will eat blueberries until they poop them whole.  For real.  They truly have.  Whole berries still intact that could roll right out of the diaper.  My poor mother discovered this fact after allowing Princess to have a blueberry binge-fest at her house a couple of years back.

We've had to limit the amount of blueberries they eat.  I found myself recently at a friend's party saying NO, you cannot have anymore blueberries today.  Why don't you try a few potato chips?  A couple of eavesdropping, older grandparent types looked at me quite confused.

I know that I should count my blessings...my kids like to eat something that is a fruit after all...and they're full of antioxidants...they are really good for them...in moderation.

My problem?  A tiny little 4 ounce pack of blueberries is going for $5.  You know, the tiny little container with a little more than a handful of blueberries?  Yep, $5.  WTF people?!

Disclaimer to regular readers: I know, I have no problem paying over $4 for my daily Pumpkin Latte fix so why should I complain about $5 for my kid's (healthy) crack?  My problem is that I don't remember EVER paying more than $1.99 in season, maybe $2.99 in the middle of the winter.  You could buy the jumbo package for $5.  If Starbucks started charging me $8, you bet I'd be unhappy.  Although, much like the blueberries, I'd suck it up and pay it anyway;)

For those of you about to suggest frozen blueberries as a more cost-effective option...have you given your toddlers frozen blueberries?!  They leave sticky blueberry juice all over the faces and hands.  SO not the same as fresh blueberries.

Tell me, has the cost of blueberries gone thru the roof everywhere...or just here in NH?

I think probably the further north you go in the US, the more expensive the out-of-season fruit gets. You know, that whole transportation/shipping thing from Central and South America.

My kids LOVE blueberries, too! My son actually ate them, rather than his first slice of cake, at his first birthday party. Too funny! I've changed blue poopy diapers more times than I can count. I'm with you on sucking it up and paying the extra cash for the expensive fruit. It's better than having them whine about sweets.

It seems to me that ALL fruit is going through the roof lately. My two are obsessed with grapes and they have gotten way more expensive lately. It stinks.

yummy blueberrys...

Maybe you can feel better when you only take them to the Doctor once this season...hehe. (and never having to worry about constipation ~snort~)

Thanks for stopping in and saying hi.

Have a super Thanksgiving.

I was just having a conversation about this the other day! It is so true. My opinion is that you take blue play dough and make blueberry-sized morsels. Either way, it will come out the other end intact!

More importantly, thank you for the your wonderful words on my blog. I sincerely appreciate them. Also, thank you for de-lurking!

Have a great day!
