The Daddy and I rarely get to go to the movies anymore. Well, any movies that we actually want to see, that is. The last two movies I saw in a theatre were Shrek 3 and Fred Claus, both with Princess. It’s been about a year and half since we went on a movie date night together. Pathetic, I know.
We left the kids at the house with my in-laws last night and went to see I Am Legend. This is the new Will Smith movie that is all the buzz back home. We were way too busy getting ready for Christmas and the trip down here to Aruba to see it when it first came out. We were excited to see that it was playing down here…in English even, bonus.
It’s difficult to say anything about I Am Legend without spoiling it. The only thing I knew going into the movie was that Will Smith’s character finds himself alone in New York City after some major disaster. Saying any more would be far too revealing.
My father used to mock the many book reports we used to have to write while growing up. It was his fault…he sent us to a private school. We read tons more books than the public school. He always used to joke that we should say:
I laughed. I cried. It became a part of me.
Those words come to mind when trying to explain this movie. I did laugh. I did cry, a few times. And I’m not a big cry baby. I even sobbed at one point. Looking around me during a particularly moving scene, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the theatre.
But the movie was not a tear-jerker. Definitely not a chick flick. But, it isn’t just an action movie either. It was so very intense that I found myself on the edge of my seat completely enthralled. It stayed with me all night. I even had dreams about the movie. There, I’ll say it…it became a part of me. I’m still thinking about it this morning.
It was THAT good of a movie. Especially if you are a mother, a father and/or a dog lover…or even if you just want to see Will Smith without his shirt on…he IS yummy.
Some *ahem- my husband* might argue that the end was a cop out. I’m not sure how else they could have ended it without getting the same criticism.
The scariest part about it to me…is that the premise behind the movie…SO could happen.
Will someone else please go see this so that I can say more?! If you’ve seen it, leave me a comment with your email…or just email me. It’s killing me that I don’t have anyone to talk to about it down here.

Thanks for the review! Before I read this, I really thought it was like a modern Night of the Living Dead crossed with Outbreak. And lots of computer-generated effects. I had no idea it was multidimensional. Now I want to see it. And I promise if I ever do get to see it, that I will email you and we'll discuss!
I cannot wait for this to come out on DVD, and your review makes me want to see it NOW. I am actually jealous that you get to go to the movies.. LOL
