Madagascar 2 or $100 I'll never get back

We planned to take the kids to a eat-in theater last weekend to see Madagascar 2.  Then The Plague of epic proportions swept through the house and we were all under quarantine.

So, this weekend, we decided to take 2 and head to the theater.  We picked up our neighbors in my mom-mobile and headed on out.

Nothing was going to stop us from going to this movie today.

Not a road-closing accident with a road block and detour.

Not a pit stop for a vomiting, car-sick 8 year old.

I'm not sure who was more excited to see this movie, me or the kids.  I LOVED the first Madagascar.  It still makes me giggle after watching it about 50 times.

Madagascar 2 was a very cute movie and the adult humor was hysterical at times.

BUT...

I don't know.  Maybe I'm in a more frugal mindset after weathering 19 weeks of my husband's unemployment.  We spent $100 on tickets and food.  That's not including my neighbors, just my family of 4.  Granted, it was one of those sit down and eat type of theaters.  So, the food wasn't just popcorn and candy.  We all ate a pretty substantial lunch.  It was pretty greasy, so I've tasted mine a second and third time, getting my money's worth.

Seriously though?  $100.

That's way too much to spend on a movie.  Way. Too. Much.

I'd much rather rent a movie on PPV for $3.99 and get, I don't know, lobster.

Am I just being cheap?

An eat-in theater?? Never even knew they existed. And I'm glad they don't around here. You can buy the DVD, a bottle of Jack and still have enough left over to make your monthly Best Buy credit card payment for a nice LCD flatscreen.

Oh, yes. Eat in AND they serve beer, my friend. This one shows Patriots games on the movie screen also, although I haven't been yet. I'd rather watch from our 42" LCD wrapped in a blanket on the couch.

I know exactly what you mean:) This is why I torture my kids with eating BEFORE then only getting popcorn and a drink. We went to the one in Sanford last weekend to see Madagascar and the kids didn't even ask to eat. I guess I have them trained now...lol!! Of course I MIGHT have snuck in a few other snacks, but that was because of Lani's allergies, of course ;)

I used to be better at packing snacks when the kids were younger. I need to get back into that.

No, your not being cheap...I was talking with Mr Firefly, because we had been cutting back in our date nites.

We went to a jazz club in Boston Sat PM. I was rather surprised at the size of the check. He agreed that everything is so much more expensive, not that we chose to go to an expensive venue. Also surprised that they dinged us $11.00 each for a cosmo, and a raspberry stoli and $3.25 for a soda.

It seems the alternative for reduced volume/customers is increased prices and smaller portions... Gee I wonder why the ecomomy is struggling. Where is the incentive to spend more, when you aren't getting value for the dollar?

I miss our free meals. We've been spoiled not having to pay for our food when we go out. I get sticker shock now.
