Google search tip of the day
Monday, November 17, 2008 at 12:27PM I don't talk about my job much. My title is Web Researcher.
This is when everyone looks at me with a blank stare.
*blink*
So, what do I do?
Despite what my husband likes to tell everyone, it has nothing at all to do with porn.
I am a project manager for an internet based company. They have a few blogs and I do a lot of the background research into the posts. I also build up portal information in our databases.
Yes, I get to do this from home and have very flexible hours. I try to get the bulk of my work done when the kids are at school.
Anyhow, I am quite speedy looking things up online. So much so, my husband and a few close friends will call sometimes during the day to ask me to look for something that they cannot find. I thought I'd share one of my favorite tricks of the trade.
Have you ever wanted to search within a website for a keyword, but either their search form sucks, or worse, there is no search form?
For example, you know that I've spoken about Raggs in the past, but you can't find the review on my blog.
You can type this into Google:
site:mommycosm.com "Raggs"
That tells Google to look only in the site Mommycosm for the word Raggs. You will get a much more targeted result than just typing in:
mommycosm and raggs
Give it a try.

Sorry, Mr. Firefly! Not so sexy, huh?!
That is an awesome tip! How would anyone normally know that?
And it's also awesome that your husband tells people you job is porn-related. HA!

He also thinks I get to take naps everyday b/c I work from home. Oh, yeah. He's a hoot!
