Elf on the Shelf
Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 07:33AM Last night, I was having a tough time getting the kids asleep in their own beds without me staying to snuggle. For over an hour, I was dealing with whining and fussing, and multiple tuck in sessions. I was bitching mentioned it on Facebook and a friend recommended this:
Thank you very much!!!
I'm totally ordering The Elf on the Shelf TODAY, possibly two! You know I'm not above trickery. *Ahem* Remember the whole Santa Cam Scam? This is much cheaper than installing a fake or real security system in our house!
Am I the last one in the world to know about The Elf on the Shelf??
(Disclaimer: Just in case you were born under a rock, or this is your first experience on the internet: Yes, if you click onto that link and purchase something at Amazon, I will get kicked back a couple of pennies. Just a couple.)

Yes, I'll admit the Elf is a little creepy. But do you want to know what is creepier?
When I took Max to the doctor this morning, she mentioned Elf on the Shelf totally randomly in our conversation. I'm 35 years old and have NEVER heard of this thing before last night. Either the universe is trying to ensure that I buy one of these OR she reads Mommycosm?!

That's creepy. Like 'clown' creepy. That reminds me of a girl I used to go out with that kept part of her doll collection on a shelf in her bathroom - and they would all sit there, watching - while you went to the bathroom.

OK, THAT is creepy. I know, the elf kind is looks creepy to me too. I'm all for scaring the kids into behaving though. I've had it with the musical beds at night. I need to sleep in my own bed all night long without sending them for a sleepover elsewhere.
Let me know how this works! Might have to invest in one myself...
A co-worker solved her sleepless nights in a different way without resorting to demon gnomes.
Anytime her children woke up at night and wanted to sleep with them, she would allow them to stay in her bedroom, but, they had to sleep on the floor.
This rule provided the children with the comfort & security of parents close by, but allowed a restful nights sleep without arms, (or legs) in the face.
It took some discipline to enforce, but her kids grew up without Elf paranoia.
Good Luck!
These were a huge deal last year too :) We have one and it works like a charm. The Elf goes home to 'visit' Santa every night and report on my kids being good (or not) that day :) Enjoy!
Just a follow-up FYI,
Now that I know what an Elf on the Shelf is, I found out they do many person book signings all over the country..
