Sorry, if you're looking for an actual HOW TO, not gonna find it here...yet. If you give me to the end of the day though, I'm sure to be an expert.
They want me to take him to go pee in a cup. He's 2 1/2. Still in diapers. Lucky if I can get him to pee in the potty once a day. He certainly does not know how to pee on command...into a little itty bitty cup. If they can't get a sterile sample the "easy" way, they are going to insert a catheter. Ouch baby, very ouch.
Also, they want to do more blood work...damn vampires. There goes my promise of no ow ows. That didn't last for long. Bad Mommy.
A little secret? I'm not strong enough for this today. I have a fever, chills and ache from head to toe. I seemed to have misplaced my Super Mom cape...anyone seen it? Check over there, behind the couch cushion...that's where Princess keeps shoving her dirty snot rags.
If I can't find my cape, maybe we'll find that portal to Aruba while we're at the hospital...THAT way, Mommy.
Peeing in a cup didn't actually happen. BamBam tried. A for effort. Luckily, they offered a back up plan before sticking in a catheter. They gave us what they called a "pediatric urine bag" to try out at home. It was a sterile bag that with a hole and tape in the appropriate areas. I was able to stick it on him and put a pull up on him. He sat down this morning to eat breakfast and yelled out Mommy, pee pee bag! when he had gone. I was a bit skeptical, but he did indeed fill the pee pee bag. I was able to safely rip it off him and dump the contents into a sterile cup. No spillage, not too much damage to sensitive areas.
Two thoughts about the pediatric urine bag. 1) If he had pooped, that would have been soooo very gross. and 2) I wonder if they make these in adult sizes...this would be cool for long road trips...although the rippage factor on an adult...oh, I won't go there.
The blood work yesterday was a bit more than I bargained for. I convinced him that it would just be a little ow ow before entering the hospital. Although it wasn't as bad as the 4 failed IV attempts, I'm still a big fat liar. The blood culture tests required them to take a sample from two separate areas. They took a total of 3 vials from each of his little arms. At least they were equipped with SpongeBob bandaids.
He was asleep before we left the parking lot of the hospital. I'll update again later when we get results.

Oh, sweetie. I'm so very sorry you're having to go through this while you're sick. That BamBam is having to go through this yet again. I wish I lived near you and I could be your supermommy side-kick for the day.

I would love a summermommy side-kick!!
I have a new babysitter today (at $9/hour!!) so that I can actually get some work done this week. My MIL is in FL and our dependable babysitter just got DUI. Well, she isn't working out to be such a good side-kick...I went up to check on them and she has him in front of the TV while she is working on her computer. I'm OK with him watching a movie since he's sick and just a lump. BUT, I could provide that level of care...which is why I wanted a babysitter, grrr.
The blessing in this scenario is that in time, Bambam probably won't remember what happened to him.
Once they have the sample and test it, You should have a better idea of what you ae dealing with.
Good luck, and I hope you both feel better.

I hope that is true. Unfortunately, when we driving into the parking lot of the hospital now, he says "Mommy, no ow ow" over and over. I do remember a hospital experience when I was just 2 years old, so I'm not so sure that he won't remember.
