NKOTB

If you know what the title stands for…well, that’s just plain sad.

Not sure if it’s just because I live slightly north of Boston, or if this is big news all over?? The New Kids on the Block are reuniting and are supposedly playing live on the Today Show tomorrow morning.

Yippee Skippy.

I think I was just a smidge too old to really develop a teenage infatuation with the boy band back in the early 90’s. Hmm…what was I doing back then?

Flashback to summers in 1990 and 1991…

I was a junior/senior in high school scooping ice cream in an old caboose converted into a summer take out joint. Tooky’s. Yes, that name still makes me think of female anatomy and makes me giggle. All the younger girls who worked there were OBSESSED. The radio was a constant battle. They would only listen to NKOTB and I wanted Bon Jovi, or even my high school boyfriend’s band cassette tape. Luckily, I was older than them and often won out.  The war got so ugly, I actually bought a Nuked Kids on the Block t-shirt. I would wear it just to piss them off. It was white with black cartoon figures of the boys…with neon yellow splatter marks from their brains being nuked…too funny.

For the record, ladies, a friend hooked up with Jonathan Knight back in the late 90’s. That friend. A guy. Hate to break it to you, but he’s gay.

The radio show I listen to in the morning had a ton of people calling today. All females. Most saying they were going to go into work late tomorrow just so they could see the OLD MEN New Kids on the Block. That’s kind of pathetic.

SO, where were you when the NKOTB were all the rage? Are you one of those late-twenty-early-30-somethings whose panties get wet just thinking about The Right Stuff?  Will you be watching the Today Show tomorrow?

I didn't catch the show, but I did have a dream about them after hearing of this reunion. Does that count?

Yes, I was a big NKOTB groupie wanna-be

Oh man, your friend could have made so much money back in the day coming out with that story. I guess now no one would really care. On a separate note, my mom taught Danny Wood and Donnie Wahlberg in high school. She chased them both to the Boston Public library when they cut class one day. Dragged them both back by the ears. New kids, meet old teacher!
