Haiku Friday: Summer Schedule Suckage

Haiku%20Friday.jpg

School is just over
Our weekends for this summer
Are booking up fast

Gone are the days when
Summer was for relaxing
And for kicking back

I swear that we have
Something on every weekend
WTF, people?!

--

I’m not kidding here. I keep an eight week, rotating dry erase calendar on our fridge. Eight weeks of our lives are planned out and we don’t have one “free” weekend. Princess just got out of school and she starts ½ day summer camp on Monday. We have birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings, annual parties, etc, etc. I suppose it's great that we are busy and surrounded by happiness and people we love, but for the love of Pete, what the hell happened to the lazy days of summer?!

Hmm…I wonder if this happens in Aruba as well? They don’t have to cram every BBQ and nice weather event into 8 weeks of summer.  Just a thought.

Those of you in warmer weather climates...do you have this problem too?  Is it just a case of our society trying to cram too much in, or is it a case of location...ie. we have to cram it into a few weeks because the weather sucks the rest of the year?  Help me out here.

I'm sure that will happen as my boys get older, but for now I'm happy for the wide open weekends. :)

I think people have learned to to leave us alone aside from the occasional family gathering. LOL!! We have 3 children, one car, very little disposable income plus my husband works on the weekends.

Have you ever considered declining an invitation?

Wow. Eight weeks? That's just crazy, hon! I'm with Karen. I'd maybe decline an invitation or two. And I agree that maybe warmer climates are better for having year-round events. I know that everything slows down here in the winter, but that's just January and February.

Good luck, hon, and hope you get a breather soon!

Wow, that sounds crazy! I would definitely cancel some stuff, but that's just me. I need a certain amount of schedule freedom.
