100 Words: Faster

I look at the clock nervously. 20 minutes until I greet her at the bus. This is killing me. I can’t make the time go any faster.

Today was her first day. 1st grade!!!

I can’t believe I let her take the bus!
I can’t believe I didn’t follow the bus!

I know. Our neighbor, her boyfriend, aka the big 2nd grader. He was on the bus too. He will take care of her. But still.

She’s my baby, my little girl, my princess. Where did the time go?

I need to stop wishing for it to go by faster.

Funny how this is the first thing that pops into a mother's mind, how FAST our kids grow up, and how we want to "drag our feet to slow the circles down" (Joni Mitchell).

I know! There are days I just want to drag them backward kicking and screaming and days I want to chuck them into next year. The drama of it all...

If you are like my wife, you will not be able to stop that feeling. And that is as it should be. Enjoy these moments.

Yeah, I'm realizing that conflicted feeling never goes away once you have kids. Moments and days can drag forever, but the years fly by.

Thanks for stopping by!
