Santa Cam Scam

Last night, I laughed out loud last night for the first time in what felt like ages.

I love to laugh. I’m usually the one trying to make other people laugh. I’ve been way too serious lately and not in the mood to be silly. Wow, it felt really good to finally bust out.

Here’s the back story:
We spent Christmas in Aruba last year. Princess was 5 ½ and BamBam 2 ½. It was difficult to pull off certain magical events of Christmas, but we managed. Well, we have a security system in our house down there with motion detectors up high in the corners of the rooms. My husband warned the kids that each time the red light came on, it meant that Santa was watching.

They are totally into Polar Express...even though I find it a bit creepy.  However, they are familiar with the scene with all the tv screens where the elves are watching the kids.

SO, Princess bought it hook, line and sinker. Our little Santa Cam scam worked fabulously. Each time she would begin a little whine fest, we would remind her…uh, uh, uh, Santa is watching. It got to the point that she would start to whine and look over her shoulder to see if Santa was watching at that particular moment before proceeding.

Oh, yeah, we had a good thing going on.

I haven’t thought of the whole Santa Cam scam in months. We don’t have a fancy schmancy security system in our house in NH. It’s summer, so Santa isn’t exactly a daily thought.

We decided to splurge and go out for pizza last night. We're on week 8 of my husband's unemployment...as pathetic as it sounds, yes eating pizza out at a restaurant = splurging for us right now.  Anyhow, we were sitting at our table waiting for our order and Princess gasps, “Mommy, SANTA is watching right now!” She pointed to the red light on the security camera up in the corner of the room.

I nearly snarfed my ice tea.

We are totally IN. FOR. IT. when she figures out the truth. I should start saving up for therapy now, you think?

Maybe it's time for one of those boxes with a red light at the NH house...

or maybe it's finally time for us to just up and move to Aruba!
