100 Words: Doorway
Monday, January 5, 2009 at 10:52AM “I can't do this,” I anxiously say to my father. He links his arm through mine; my mind spins.
I should’ve listened. We should’ve eloped. What was I thinking?! What if I fall? Everyone is looking at ME.
Dad smiles reassuringly.
I see our friends and family. The sun is glorious as it reflects off the lake. The flowers? Beautiful. It is the perfect summer day.
My groom turns to face me. Our eyes meet. Anxiety melts away.
I feel my dad tighten his grip as I step through the doorway, down the aisle, into the rest of my life.

I'm confused. Is he tightening his grip so you can't get / run away? :)

Good question. I'm not sure I have the answer to that. I just remember feeling it tighten just when I calmed down and was ready to walk down the aisle.
Beautiful, hon! I can see it as if I was there!
If felt just like that didn't it? I remember the doors opening and me starting to sob.

Yep. Our wedding was outside on a lake. I had to walk out of the lodge to go down the "aisle". Stupid me, wore heals to walk over rocks. I didn't fall :)
Beautiful.
I think he was tightening his grip to give you the strength to walk across the lawn.

You were there...
