Three keys to happiness
Monday, November 2, 2009 at 11:51AM I read something years ago that stuck with me. Of course, it was so long ago I now have absolutely NO idea where I read it. If I figure it out, I will give credit.
Anyhow, the gist was that you only need 3 things in order to find true happiness in your life. They are:
1) Someone to love.
2) Something meaningful to do.
3) Something to look forward to.
Everything else is just noise.
I'm seriously dragging today. We are all fighting colds here in Mommycosm. Scratchy throats. Tired. Grumpy. I'm trying to keep my perspective in check instead of allowing myself to feel miserable and sorry for myself.
Am I happy?
Heck ya!
I have plenty of people whom I love. I am truly blessed.
I almost have too much to do. Some of it is meaningful. Some not.
Definitely have a lot to look forward to. Leaving for Aruba in 8 weeks is the biggie. It's getting me through some of these sun-less and cold fall days.
So instead of crying "POOR ME!" today, I'm going to acknowledge that my body needs a little extra rest in order to fight off this virus. I'm going to stop trying to be SuperMom and strip things down to the basics until we all feel better.
Just saying this out loud...
I feel a little better already.

Surprisingly (to many), Sigmund Freud actually said that having meaningful relationships and meaningful work is the secret to a happy life.
