He's baack! The return of our Elf on the Shelf
Monday, November 30, 2009 at 07:20AM Last year, I discovered The Elf on the Shelf. I bought two and gave one away to a lucky reader.
Are you familiar with The Elf on the Shelf? If you have small kids and you have not heard of this wonderful, albeit sometimes creepy little guy, you are totally missing out.
My kids named their elf Murray. I love Murray with big, puffy hearts and stars in my eyes. He's magic. Not just because he flies back to Santa (almost) every night to report on the kids' behavior, but because he WORKS. My kids are completely paranoid that Murray will report their naughtiness back to Santa. This little creature is able to scare them straight in ways well beyond my rock star parenting skills. I am golden for the next 26 days.
Can I get a hallelujah over here?
Yeah, and shut up to all you naysayers. Nuns at my Catholic school told me in the second grade I was going to hell for not being baptized. I already know my fate. I am not above lying about magical creatures and doing my part to keep up the sham for as long as possible. I'm the one with the Santa Cam Scam, remember?!
Besides, how can I deny my kids the excitement of seeing their elf return from North [the attic] for the first time in 2009? Enter exhibit A:
If you want to buy your kids' good behavior between now and Christmas invest in this priceless Christmas tradition, you can probably still find one at your local bookstore. Here's my amazon link: Elf on the Shelf.
(Disclaimer: In theory, I might receive a few pennies if you use my amazon link. I've been blogging for 3 years now and have never received pennies from amazon, so really consider the link as added just for your convenience.)
Max has been on a mean streak lately. Hitting, punching, kicking and generally acting fresh. My Total Transformation Program skills have been put to the test numerous times over the last few days.
I haven't even begun Christmas shopping. Tick, tock. 25 shopping days. AND we leave for our 5 week trip to Aruba in 31 days. I'm really looking forward to Murray's magic helping me out.

I hope Murray works! And don't forget that you need to kiss the Aruban sand for me. ;)
