Review: Classic Starts™: Peter Pan

The thought of rewriting a classic may seem like a strange idea...if you don't have an early reader in your life. My daughter is in first grade and is just getting into chapter books. She takes right after her mother and LOVES to read. This version of Peter Pan has quickly become one of her favorites.

What are Classic Starts™?  From the back of the book:

With Classis Starts, young readers can experience the wonder of timeless stories from an early age. Abridged for easier reading and carefully rewritten, each classic novel is filled with all the magic and excitement that made the original story a beloved favorite.

After reading Peter Pan, we will be purchasing many, many more. Check out the complete list.

My daughter is able to read this on her own and when time permits, we alternate pages - I'll read one, she'll read one. My son is a squirmy worm - but the pirate action is just enough to keep him interested. We've been reading 2 chapters a night before bed. Some nights we read 3 because we NEED to know what is going to happen next.

The characters are familiar - with Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy, John, Peter the lost boys...and, of course, Hook. The story, though, is told using language and situations that will definitely appeal to younger kids.

On a Mommycosm scale of 1 to 10, we give this book a 10.
