Freelance Copywriter
Monday, April 26, 2010 at 09:28AM I was recently approached by a friend's company. They need someone to do the copy writing on their new website and wanted to know if I'd like to give it a shot. They knew my husband and I were both laid off within a month of each other. They reached out to me. The funny thing is, I hadn't really considered copy writing before. It got me thinking...
I should do this.
I totally should do this.
Copy writing.
I've been honing my writing skills as a corporate and personal blogger for about 3 years now. It's a natural step. Here in Mommycosm, I write much like I speak. Which means that some of my sentences aren't really sentences. They are just thoughts. I'm not always PC. Not always grammatically correct. (<--case in point!)
BUT...
At the other sites, I was uber professional. My boss described the style of blogging as "fact blogging." Just the facts, ma'am. I wrote about prefab housing at Prefabcosm. I wrote about WWII German POWs to promote the book Canadian Escapades at the Can-Esc blog. For me, the writing was the easy part. It was the research behind the writing that was challenging. Well, and the fact that prior to those projects, my knowledge base about prefab housing and WWII was minute...to say the least.
So, that's one more piece of spaghetti I'm flinging against the wall.
Take that, Universe. This is me, embracing my opportunities.
Freelance Copywriter.
I kinda like it.
