Boston.com: Smartphone apps dealing stores a hard hand

So, hi.  Not a great time to be going all MIA from Mommycosm, I see.

ehem

My stats show that a c-RAZY amount of people were poking around this weekend.  Not sure why exactly.

Hmm...

Could it be that I was on the FRONT page of The Boston Globe on Saturday?

You think?!

In the midst of dealing with The Plague hitting Mommycosm and a family member in the hospital about to undergo major surgery, I spent a few hours last week with a (very nice) journalist from The Boston Globe.  We went shopping for items on my Christmas list all with the goal of me showing him how I use mobile apps while I shop.  It was a lot of fun and such an easy and authentic topic for me.

My lack of coupon usage has been well documented (and laughed at).  I know.  I kinda suck at coupons.  I'll admit it.  I'm just not into cutting coupons even though I have seen real savings when I do.  I often pay full price for my toothpaste;-)

HOWEVER.

I'm a total geek.  I totally rock the whole getting best price for tech gadgets realm.  Totally.  I do a ton of research online prior to purchasing a major tech product and read as many reviews as possible.  Ever since eBay introduced it to me, I also use apps like RedLaser to scan items while in store to ensure I get best price... or at least to ensure that I'm making an educated decision while purchasing.  Sometimes it's not all about price, right?  Like when I want to buy local or when immediate gratification is more important.  I still use apps, I just know better what it's costing me.

So, the reporter mentioned the article could be front page.  I had NO IDEA it would be front and center like it was.  It was fun hearing from the many friends and family members who saw the paper.  There were two down falls though:  1) My little guy kinda sorta saw the box in the picture.   Oops.  He's been threatened with just a box if he isn't on his best behaviour and 2) unfortunately, I had no voice to actually talk to anybody.  Laryngitis.

While I've been in the paper numerous times as a softball coach and even appeared a couple of times on Aruba's TV Sports show, I've never been front and center as a resource on an article before.  Certainly never on the front page of something as well circulated as The Boston Globe.  It was fun.

Do you use apps while shopping?  If so, what are your favorites?
