I mentioned in my “About Me” page that we have a second-home in Aruba. We built it with my in-laws the year we got married. They were looking for a retirement spot and we were saving up to build a house in New Hampshire. We were living in their basement apartment at the time. I took THE Daddy (then just THE Boyfriend) to Aruba for a vacation and we both fell in love with the area. Real Estate was considerably less expensive down there, so we took a gamble and put our money into building a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with a pool. We LOVE it there. My in-laws get to go far more often than us, but we just booked a 3 week vacation for the end of the year. We’ve made friends with a family on the island…they have become like our second-family. BamBam’s middle name is actually their last name. We've even considered relocating there for a few years while the kids are young.
I stumbled across this post yesterday on a site called scaredmonkey. It really pissed me off.
First of all, holy crap, there were 3 water spouts in Aruba. That’s pretty scary. Luckily, no one got hurt.
But the author takes the angle that this natural weather phenomenon is “Justice for Natalee”, saying that because her case remains unsolved, the good people of Aruba deserve this. WTF?!?! THAT IS SO INGORANT. That’s like saying that the people of New Orleans deserved Hurricane Katrina because the police department hasn’t been able to solve a suspicious dissappearance case. There are plenty of botched and unsolved cases out there people, right here in the US.
I watched the whole Natalee Holloway disappearance in horror with the rest of the world. Yes, the Aruban police are bound by Dutch law instead of US law and may have handled things differently. Yes, they OFTEN came across as completely incompetent and dropped the ball more than a few times. It’s disgustingly frustrating that they have not solved this case. My gut says that Joran drugged her and she somehow died. He probably freaked and got rid of the “evidence”. He is scum. So is his judge father who probably coached him on how to dispose of her body. May their souls rot in hell for their part in her disappearance and probable murder.
My question is: Why do the good people of Aruba deserve anything bad to happen to them??? We know a number of good families who have lived on the island for generations. They are hard working, God-loving, families who would give a stranger in need the shirt off their backs. I understand the anger against the police and Joran, but please keep this in perspective. So many of these comments are spewing hate against a country like it’s an individual person. Spewing hate and ingorance is NOT going to bring Natalee back. You want to talk about KARMA...how about all the negative energy that the writers of (some of) these comments are putting out into the world?!
My friend’s wedding is right around the corner. I’m her Matron of Honor. When I came home from our Nantucket Girls Weekend, I realized that my skirt no longer fit. I had the option to buy the next size up and have it shortened, or to suck it up and lose the weight before the big day. I chose the latter. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with BamBam. I was able to keep it under control by changing my diet and monitoring my blood sugar levels. I was entering my 3rd trimester and actually LOST 8 pounds within 2 weeks. I basically became religious about counting carbs. Every carb counted and I was very pregnant, so when faced with the option of eating one piece of bread or a huge bowl of blueberries with cream, I made the obvious choice. I decided to go back to that “diet” and pay strict attention to what I put in my body. So far, so good. I can at least put on the skirt and fasten it…I just can’t picture having to wear it for hours on end. Good thing I have another 10 days until the wedding!
Here’s one of my favorite lunches to eat while I’m counting carbs:
12 round slices of cucumber, I like the European cucumbers b/c they don’t have huge seeds
low fat, whipped cream cheese
smoked salmon, cut into 1”x1” slices, about 12 pieces
apple chipotle
I spread a dollop of the cream cheese onto the cucumber
Place a 1”x1” slice of the smoked salmon
Add a pea-sized dab of apple chipotle
Voila.
I love that it fills me up without feeling tired, bloated and “over-carbed”.

In lieu of my own top ten list today, I thought I’d share a web site that I stumbled across. TenMojo.com is a site dedicated to Top Ten Lists. It has an amazing array of topics, from Top 10 Violin Concertos of All Time to The Top 10 List on Ten Most Common Causes of Death in Men. I found many helpful lists as well as a few silly ones.
(disclaimer: I am not affiliated with TenMojo.com in any way, shape or form. I am not getting paid to write this "review". That is not to say that I will not write paid reviews for products in the future. I do believe in full disclosure.)
Do you have any favorite Top 10 Lists? Any Top 10 Topics you would like to see me cover? Please share them in the comments.
I was having a difficult time keeping track of our busy schedule this summer. I missed 2 appointments within a week and decided that enough was enough. I haven’t needed an organizational calendar since I stopped working full-time when I was 3 months pregnant with Princess…that was over 5 years ago! With 2 kids going into 2 different schools this week, I figured now is the perfect time to get organized.
A friend of mine with 2 daughters in school had this great magnetic calendar on her fridge and seemed to be keeping on top of everything. I did some research online and found this Dry-erase Calendar Magnets,w/ Dry Erase Marker,14-1/2"x14". It’s awesome. I keep the current week on the top and rotate the weeks each Sunday. It comes in a package of 4 weeks. I bought 2 packages and now keep track of our lives 8 weeks at a time. I’m a little sad that our carefree days of no calendar are over…but this is really helping me feel on top of our schedule again!
